Extending across the Isthmus of Panama, it connects the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. It is about 82 km (50 mi) long from deepwater to deepwater, with an average depth of 13 m (43 ft) through the Gaillard (Culebra) Cut. The width varies between 150 to 300 m (500 to 1,000 ft).
