About this photo

One of the oldest surviving European architectural remains in Asia. Built in 1511, under the command of Alfonso de Albuquerque (who led the Portuguese Empire invasion on the Malacca Sultanate), the remains of the fort are now a crumbling whitewashed gatehouse so-called "Porta de Santiago" which is well preserved as you can see today and is located downhill from St. Paul’s Church.
